Overview of trianing

There are many effective approaches to supporting children who have experienced trauma, separation and loss. Foster carers are often introduced to a wide range of techniques, strategies, and tools and so this training was developed with two aims in mind:

Firstly, trainers demonstrate how these different approaches are not separate, but are often rooted in the same underlying principles and can be brought together into one coherent, integrated way of working.

Secondly, and most importantly, it recognises that the challenge is often not a lack of knowledge, but the difficulty of applying that knowledge in everyday situations. The course therefore includes a strong reflective element, helping carers consider the internal barriers that may affect implementation, how these approaches fit with their own experiences and beliefs about parenting, and what may influence their ability to translate theory into practice.
