Amelie's Place: Therapy and Training Support

Our journey

Established in 2018, Amelie’s Place began its journey by delivering tailored therapeutic interventions to children who live in foster care, special guardianship and adoptive arrangements. In the years that followed, we expanded into other areas and now offer therapy and training to families and professionals nationally, both online and in person.

You may be asking what separates Amelie’s Place from other providers? What makes us unique? Our answer to that is our approach. All our therapists are trained in different therapeutic disciplines which means they can provide a service which is entirely bespoke to the children and families they work with. Our therapy is a process of establishing what works for you as individuals and what is effective for the child you are caring for. We understand that literature on trauma informed approaches does not always relate to the reality of managing heated moments or engaging a child who needs to talk but won’t. Our therapists our systemically trained and highly therapeutically experienced, having worked with hundreds of families over their extensive careers. Caring for children is a challenging business and we here to support you. We look forward to welcoming you to our therapeutic family!

Bradley Barrett

“Following life’s various twists and turns I have worked within child protection, fostering, adoption, special guardianship and adult mental health services. These experiences have provided me with a unique, first-hand insight into the experiences of children that enter and pass through the social care system and what impact unresolved trauma can have on our wellbeing, as adults. I offer lived experience, a deep understanding of the challenges of parenting children with additional needs and knowledge about how to apply approaches that are effective with those who have experienced trauma, loss and separation. I am here to work alongside families and support people using the best of my skills which I have cultivated over the past 20 years working in this field. My formal training is in social work, Theraplay® approaches, DDP ® approaches and therapeutic life journey work."

“With 30 year’s experience working with adoptive families, adopted adults, children in care, and kinship families, I have seen both the joys and challenges of family life. Many families face grief, loss, separation, and adversity related to developmental trauma. My aim is to offer understanding, compassion, and kindness to parents, carers, and children during their difficult journeys. Receiving attentive support, acceptance, and a sense of connection can significantly reduce stress and provide individuals with a clearer perspective on life’s challenges. At Amelie’s Place we strive to understand the needs of families and are committed to ensuring that our collaboration fosters peace throughout our shared journey.”

"Hello! My name is Beth and I am the administrator for Amelie’s Place. My role is to help, signpost and collect information from various sources so our therapists have everything they need to work alongside families to the best of their abilities. Before joining the Amelie's Place team, I worked extensively with charities and local services which provide social care services to groups and individuals within community settings."
